VP: Indonesia Products Able To Be Competitive in CAFTA

Vice President Boediono has expressed optimism that Indonesia`s products could be competitive in the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA).

“FTA with China with help Indonesian economic growth,” the vice president said as a keynote speaker at the “Economist Conference to Hold Indonesia Summit 2010″ here on Thursday.

According to Boediono, Indonesia`s strength to face ASEAN and China free trade was based on the country`s commodities and energy, as it has been a business partner with a number of countries.

“We welcome your presence in Indonesia because it can help manufacture industries to remain on track,” Boediono said in the conference, attended by economists and business makers from various countries.

The vice president said that besides commodities and energy, Indonesia also has a great number of young people and relatively stable democratic condition.

But the vice president admitted that the country still needed significant improvement in market, workers` skill, and business practice standardization.

“In addition, we also need support in infrastructure, electricity, road facility, train transportation, and information technology,” the vice president said in the conference.

The Economist Conference to hold Indonesia Summit here on Thursday presented prominent speakers among others Indonesian Vice President Boediono, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, Industry Minister MS Hidayat and the Head of Investment Coordinating Agency Gita Wirjawan.
