President To Address G-20 Summit

24 September 2009 | Politics.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to address the summit of the Group of 20 nations in Pittsburg, September 24 and 25, 2009.SBYPresidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal said before the President`s departure from Halim Perdana Kusuma airport Wednesday that the Head of State will be a lead speaker on climate change with one of the main points namely that amidst the global crisis one more important thing must not be forgotten, namely the impact of climate change.

The President will also present this theme at the conference on climate change in Copenhagen, Denmark, in December.

The President in his address will also express Indonesia`s wish to make G-20 a permanent institution.

“This group should not disappear after the crisis has been overcome. G-20 could become a permanent forum like G-7B or G-8, because G-20 is more a reflection that the world economic changes is no longer managed by the United States, Europe and Japan,” he said.

Following the G-20 summit, on September 26 the President will proceed to Boston for a meeting with American business leaders, and attend a presentation on renewable energy.

“The President will also deliver a speech at Harvard University under the theme `Harmony among Civilizations`, which is the President`s mission in the 21st century that there is no need for a clash of civilizations or religions, but we could build a century of harmony and tolerance among all civilizations and religions,” he said.

Dino also said the G-20 summit is also important to Indonesia`s interest and economic growth, as well as for the people`s welfare and world economy.

On the sidelines of the summit, the President is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with several Japanese, Australian and Thai statesmen.
