President Inaugurates 20 New Envoys

21 January 2010 | Politics.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono inaugurated here Wednesday 20 new ambassadors who will serve in a number of countries in Asia, Europe, North and Latin America and Africa.

Three of the new envoys are non-career diplomats, including Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland Djoko Susilo, who is a former politician from the National Mandate Party (PAN), and Indonesian Ambassador to Morocco Tosari Widjaja, who is from the United Development Party (PPP).

The two were previously members of the House of Representatives’ Commission I overseeing defense and foreign affairs.

The other non-career diplomat is the Ambassador to Romania Marianna Sutadi, who was the deputy chief for judicial affairs at the Supreme Court.

Djoko was initially tipped to take up the ambassadorial job in Romania, but he swapped his posting with Marianna’s following their selection test at the House last year.

The House approved 22 new ambassadors altogether, but two of them will be installed later.

Some career diplomats will serve their second term as ambassadors.
