“Japan has studied the project. China is also interested,” said a deputy to the coordinating minister for the economy, from the regional infrastructure and development division, Bambang Susanto, yesterday (3/9). However, Bambang said that government has actually not yet announced officially the plan to build the bridge over the Sunda Strait.
Government is identifying and studying the project.
It is expected to have a report and recommendations next month.
“We hope to have it by October 21,” said Bambang.
He explained that there were 36 reports about infrastructure planning development.
A special team is planned to be formed to study the infrastructure better.
The government has been considering a bridge, an under-sea tunnel, or combination of these two options to connect the two islands.
All options have their positive and negative sides.
Bambang mentioned that the Banten and Lampung governments were more likely to agree to build a bridge.
Bambang said that one domestic investor interested in the bridge project was Artha Graha group.
While for the under-sea tunnel, PT Nusantara Tunnel has submitted its development concept.
