Independence Day Flag Raising Ceremony in Oslo

Commemorating the 67th Anniversary of Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, a flag raising ceremony was performed at the Indonesian Residence, Oslo.

The Residence was decorated with red and white nuance, just like the colors of the national flag. The sky was clear and beautiful when the flag was raised accompanied by the national anthem, Indonesia Raya.

The ceremony commenced at exactly 10.00 local time, with Ambassador Esti Andayani presided as the Inspector of the ceremony. It started with the flag raising, followed by a moment of silence, reading the texts of Proclamation, Pancasila, the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution, and a prayer.

Ceremony went solemnly, and was attended by about 70 Indonesians residing in Oslo and surrounding cities, who enthusiastically came to the Residence to join the ceremony regardless it was held within the holy month of Ramadan and in a working day in Norway.

The flag raising officers and members of the choir were students and kids of Indonesian families in Oslo, who had also enthusiastically trained for one month.

Towards the end of the ceremony, Ambassador Esti gave recognition award to three local staffs who had served the Embassy for 30 years.

This year, since the Independence Day also fell on Ramadan, entertainment and distribution of prizes for competitions which usually were held after the ceremony, will be performed with the Ied el Fitr celebration which is predicted to fall on Sunday, 19 August 2012.

Still within a series of Independence Day commemoration, the Embassy will host a Batik Exhibition by Joko Sudadiyo, to take place at the Indonesian Embassy, Fritznersgt 12, 0244 Oslo, on 23-29 August 2012.
