Government Raises Excise Receipt Target for 2010
The government has revised upward the target of excise receipts for 2010 to Rp58.2 trillion from Rp57.2 trillion following a plan to raise liquor excise by up to 200 percent as of April 1.
“Given the policy, the target of excise receipts increases by Rp1 trillion.” Director General of Customs and Excise Thomas Sugijata said on Monday.
But he added that the increase was not merely caused by the liquor excise hike but also by internal efforts to eradicate fake excise tapes and illegal liquor circulation.
He predicted that because of the liquor excise hike attempts of smuggling in liquor would be on the increase.
“We realize the consequence of this policy and thus, we will increase surveillance and take (harsh) measures against smugglers,” he said.
He said excise receipts in the year ended on March 23 accounted for 25.36 percent of the target set in the 2010 state budget.
“Import and export duty receipts respectively account for 23.19 percent and 6.60 percent of the target,” he said.
In the 2010 state budget the government has set the target of excise receipts at Rp57.2 trillion, that of import duty receipts at Rp16.5 trillion and that of export duty receipts at Rp7.6 trillion.
