Education Ministry Preparing Entrepreneurship-based Curriculum

pendidikanThe National Education Ministry is preparing an entrepreneurship-based curriculum which is expected to be applied in the 2010 – 2011 academic year, Education Minister Muhammad Nuh said.

After attending a coordination meeting on the people`s welfare here on Monday that the minister said he hoped the curriculum would be finished before the end of his first 100 days of his service.

“The 100 day work program covers November, December and January. We hope the curriculum would have been completed early in February at the latest so that we hope it would have been included in the curriculum for the 210-2012 new academic year,” the minister added.

Muhammad Nuh said the new curriculum would not overhaul the previous curriculum but an entrepreneurship substance would be included in it.He said that basically the entrepreneurship curriculum was aimed at instilling entrepreneurship characters to students, including flexibility to think, creativities, innovation and sense of willing to know.

“The first thing that has to be formed with students is flexibility in thinking because this will generate their creativities. One will not be creative if he or she is rigid in thinking,” the minister said.

He said that the substance of the entrepreneurship-based curriculum would be included in the curriculum of each level of education.”That can be included as a part of a teaching subject or be made a subject itself. But all this must be calculated first so that it would be adjusted to students` learning hours,” he said.

The minister said that the government would provide entrepreneurship training to teachers and lecturers in order to support the application of the entrepreneurship-based curriculum.

In the meantime, Higher Education Director General Fasli Jalal said that at universities the entrepreneurship curriculum would among other things be implemented as a selected subject.

“Previously, entrepreneurship subject only existed at universities` schools of economics. Ahead, it would become an optional subject so that all interested in it could take it,” the director general said.
