Construction of Two PLN Powerhouses Started

The construction of two main powerhouses in South Bengkulu and North Bengkulu regencies has been started raising each capacity by 1 megawatts (MW) to meet the power needs in the two regencies.

“Construction has begun, its cornerstone had been laid last week, and hopefully the project would be operational this year,” head of the Bengkulu office of state power company PT PLN Kadarisman said Wednesday.

At present Bengkulu province has three main powerhouses respectively in Bengkulu city, Lebong regency, and Kepahiang regency.

The one in Bengkulu city supplies power to the city, and parts of Seluma and Central Bengkulu regencies.

The powerhouse in Lebong supplies power to Lebong and parts of North Bengkulu regencies, while the powerhouse in Kepahiang supplies power to Kepahiang and parts of Rejang Lebong regencies.

“However, the three main powerhouses have yet to fully meet the power needs of the people in Kaur and Mukomuko regencies, so that the building of these two powerhouses may illuminate the two regions,” he said.

Kadarisman said the construction of one such powerhouse cost Rp200 billion, so that the two will cost Rp400 billion.
